About the role
Developers lose years and deposits to queue positions that were never going to work. Basepoint screens grid position before filing: hosting capacity, prior study data, and independent power flow at the candidate point of interconnection.
You will own the modeling behind that screen. That means the power flow engine, the assumptions that feed it, and the explanation a developer sees when we tell them a node is constrained.
What you will do
- Own the power flow and contingency screening models, including base case construction and seasonal cases.
- Translate ISO and utility study methodologies into screening logic that is honest about its limits.
- Define how results are presented: headroom, curtailment risk, and likely upgrade triggers.
- Validate screening output against published study reports and customer outcomes, and close the gaps.
- Work with product engineers to make the models usable inside the app and by the in-app agent.
What we are looking for
- Degree in electrical engineering or equivalent, with hands-on power flow experience (PSS/E, PowerWorld, PSLF, or open-source equivalents).
- Working knowledge of transmission and distribution interconnection processes in at least one US ISO or large utility.
- Ability to write production-quality Python or TypeScript, or a strong desire to get there fast.
- Comfort explaining technical results to non-engineers without overstating certainty.
Nice to have
- Experience at a utility, ISO, or interconnection consultancy running system impact studies.
- Familiarity with FERC Order 2023 cluster processes and readiness requirements.
- Storage dispatch or hybrid resource modeling.
