Founding Full-Stack Engineer

About the role

Basepoint is the workspace energy developers use to find sites, screen the grid, design layouts, model returns, and run projects to construction. The product is broad, the team is small, and the users are demanding. You will ship features that a developer uses the same week to decide whether to option a parcel.

This is a founding engineering seat. You will own whole surfaces, from schema to map interaction to the agent tools that sit on top, and you will talk to the customers who use them.

What you will do

• Design and ship full features across the Next.js app, API routes, and the Postgres and PostGIS data model.
• Build map-heavy interfaces: layer panels, parcel selection, drawing tools, and layout previews that stay fast with large datasets.
• Extend the agent tool surface so the in-app assistant can query, screen, and act on real project data safely.
• Instrument what you ship, watch how developers use it, and iterate in days rather than quarters.
• Review code, shape conventions, and help set the engineering bar as the team grows.

What we are looking for

• Five or more years building production web applications, with deep TypeScript and React experience.
• Comfort owning the database: schema design, migrations, query performance, and row-level security.
• A track record of shipping ambiguous, cross-cutting features with little supervision.
• Clear written communication. Most of our design work happens in documents and pull requests.

Nice to have

• PostGIS, MapLibre or Mapbox GL, vector tiles, or other geospatial work.
• Experience building LLM tool-calling systems or evaluation harnesses.
• Exposure to energy, real estate, infrastructure, or another regulated, data-heavy domain.
