You can now use Basepoint from Claude

The Basepoint logo and the Claude logo side by side

What it is

The connector gives Claude more than 100 of the tools that sit behind the assistant inside Basepoint. When you ask Claude something, it picks the tools it needs, Basepoint runs them, and Claude answers from what comes back. They're the same tools, so the numbers match what you'd see in the app, and most results link to the record in Basepoint.

Most of the tools read. They cover your projects, tasks, permits, saved sites, parcels, files, reports, contacts, data rooms, financial models and CAD site plans, plus our ordinance, docket, interconnection queue, data center and incentive data. Some run analysis: a quick screen of a single point, the full Siting assessment on up to 12 sites at a time, sensitivity runs on a financial model, and energy, glare and geotechnical runs on a site plan. The rest write to your account. Claude can create and update projects, tasks, permits, timeline events, contacts and saved sites, edit cells in a financial model, and save documents. Nothing in the connector deletes.

Setting it up

In Claude, go to Settings, then Connectors, and click Add custom connector. Call it Basepoint and use https://dashboard.getbasepoint.com/api/mcp as the URL. When you click Connect, a Basepoint window opens. Sign in if you need to, read what Claude is asking for, and click Allow.

From then on Basepoint appears in the tools menu of any new chat. Leave it on and ask in plain English; you don't have to name the tools.

If your company uses Claude Team or Enterprise, an Owner has to add the connector before anyone can connect their own login. In Claude Code the command is claude mcp add --transport http basepoint https://dashboard.getbasepoint.com/api/mcp, and you sign in from /mcp.

An example

We tried it on a 150-acre parcel outside Champaign, Illinois, asking for a Siting assessment for a 5 MW solar project. It came back in under a minute: about 123 buildable acres, a regulatory floodway across 2 acres, hydric soils under more than half the site, and Champaign County's 50 foot setback and 20 foot height limit for solar farms, with a link to the full report.

One site is the simple case. More often someone has sent you a list. You can drop the spreadsheet or PDF into the chat and ask Claude to assess the sites, rank them and save the best few to your account.

Other things to try

It gets more useful next to Claude's other connectors. With Gmail connected, you can ask it to go through the week's emails from landowners and county staff, add the new people to Basepoint and set follow-up tasks. With your calendar, "brief me for Thursday's meeting with Champaign County planning" pulls the county's solar rules, any moratorium, the meeting minutes we have, and your saved sites in the county into one page. The rules come from the same data as our ordinance pages.

It's also handy for work that starts outside your account. Ask it to find PJM counties without a solar moratorium and with a lighter queue, check for data center growth nearby, and estimate interconnection cost for a 50 MW project in the best three, and it will use our regulatory, queue, data center and cost data along with Claude's own web search. If someone pitches you a project, it can screen the site and list the red flags before anyone opens a data room.

It keeps records current without opening the app. After a call with the county, "mark the CUP on Red River as submitted and note that the hearing is on the 12th" updates the permit and its activity log.

For the weekly update, asking where every project stands, what's overdue and what the biggest open risk is on each gets you a draft. Ask Claude to save it and it goes into your Basepoint Files as a document you can edit.

What it can't do yet

It can't delete anything, and it can't generate or redraw a CAD layout; that stays in the site plan editor. Building a new financial model from scratch also stays in the app for now.

Access and your data

Claude signs in through OAuth with your Basepoint login, and you approve it on a Basepoint page that lists what it will be able to do. After that it acts as you. It sees what you can see in Basepoint, including anything your team has shared with you, and nothing else.

Each tool call shows in the chat as it runs, so you can see what Claude looked at. To disconnect, remove Basepoint from Claude's connector settings.

Common questions

Which Claude plans can use it?

Any plan that supports custom connectors. On Team and Enterprise, an Owner adds it first.

What does it cost?

Claude's side is covered by your Claude plan. Anything Basepoint runs for Claude, such as a Siting assessment, counts toward your Basepoint usage the same way it does in the app.

Can Claude delete anything?

No. It can create and update records and edit financial models, but there's no delete in the connector.

Does connecting share anything with my team?

No. Everyone connects their own login, and Claude only sees what that person can see.

Does it work in Claude Code?

Yes. Run claude mcp add --transport http basepoint https://dashboard.getbasepoint.com/api/mcp, then sign in from /mcp.

Put this to work on a real site
